Update #1

I have decided I am going to start numbering my updates, just to help track them in the future!

This update is mostly for adding success rates, and "perfect" rates for each challenge.

Each Challenge now has:

• A "Perfect" rating, which shows what % of registered users managed to get the answer in their first guess.
• A "Success" rating, which shows what % of registered users managed to get the answer within their 3 guesses.

Content Blitz

Every now and then (aiming for atleast one a month, maybe more) I want to create a lot of challenges for a specific game.

This will allow me to get different communities involved, and build out the site's content.

My first big project is going to be Old School Runescape! Just as I'm about to get my first 99! its Strength, shoutout Gemstone Crab

In this update I've fixed up a few bugs, and added a bit of polish here and there.

• Added "Perfect" and "Success" ratings for challenges.
• Added "Perfect" message for when the users answers a challenge in their first guess.
• Updated the Home Page carousel to better suited for to showcase more games.
• Fixed an issue where the marker for players guesses was appearing before they click.
• Fixed navigation bar sizing on certain screen sizes.
• Improved zoom map image caching to prevent as much "flashing", caused by tile loading.

I have been working on Game World Guessr for over a year, and even longer if you count the first version of the site.

I am so grateful to everyone who has played and guessed, and also to everyone who I can see creating some content in the backend!

I am going to continue working on new updates and creating content for the site for you and your friends to enjoy.

Merch and Ads

When I launched the site, the main criticsm I recieved was that the ads were egregious, especially on mobile.

I agree wholeheartedly, that was my mistake, and so I've made a decision to remove all third-party ads from the site , and I will try converting to a donation and merch based support system.

This will definitely not be the last bug fix log you see to do with Zoom Maps haha.

Changelog:

• Added warning to map images to deletion loading screen about waiting.
• Fixed an issue when sorting games, for games with ties challenge set and map counts.
• Fixed an issue where awkward sized Zoom Map images would cause issues when tiled.
• Fixed an issue where Map Set buttons in the overview for Zoom Maps wouldn't have a preview image.

Hello everyone! First I just want to say thank you for playing and enjoying the site so much!

I'll do a proper post tomorrow about the first week of being live, but for now I just have a few small updates:

Changelog:

• Updated the /games page to now sort by "Most Challengesets", to prioritise the games with the most content.
• Updated the /challengesets page to now sort by "Guesses", to prioritise the games with the most participation.
• Updated the rows inside /mapsets, to properly on desktop.
• Updated the rows inside /mapsets, to properly show preview images for Zoom Maps.
• Updated the previews inside /mapset, to properly show a full preview for Zoom Maps.
• Fixed issue in Challenge Set Editor when "Challenge Selection" overlay was blocking Map Set selection overlay.
• Updated the Map Set Selector in the Challenge Set Editor to allow proper previews of the MapSet before selection.
• Updated privacy policy and TOS to be contained within the site as HTML, instead of files.

The biggest feature I wanted to add to the original Game World Guessr is now here, Zoom Maps!

Zoom maps allow users to upload one very high resolution Map image, which then gets converted into a tiled, zoomable map.

To celebrate and test this new feature I have added Old School Runescape to GwG, with an overworld map and small challenge set.

Now you can create your own Old School Runescape challenges using the map!

It's early days with these feature so I won't be surprised if some bugs or issues slip through the cracks, so if you see any, let me know on the Discord!

I've also included some small bug fixed and Quality of Life changes.

Changelog:

• In the Challenge Set editor you can now directly paste your screenshots from your clipboard.
• Fixed a visual issue with how the overview page rendered on mobile.
• Began branding verification for Google, so that the Google Sign-in process shows the proper branding. (Should be live in ~2 days)

I wanted a way to keep the community up-to-date on any changes or updates made to the site, and now you can, right here.

Changelog:

• Fixed an issue with my SMTP provider that was not allowing Email-based login/registration.
• Logging/Registering now redirects to the users profile.
• The user now gets prompted to update their username in the onboarding process.

You can view all updates here, and a little notification will appear across the site whenever a new update can be read about.

I also immediately got great feedback from Reddit that my ads were way too annoying, especially on mobile, and I agreed 100% so basically all ads are removed from mobile, and many from desktop. This was due to me not testing the live version of the site on mobile since the ads had come on line. I'll be sure to test any future ad-implementations on all screen sizes before any changes in the future.
